Council announces that the cost of the building was pounds sterling 170.9.7 (KC 408). 27 Mar 1847: First discussed when Council mentions looking for land for a "Magnetic & Meteorological Observatory" (KC 1829-, 316). 23 Mar 1847: 300 pounds granted for "a good 7 feet Achromatic Telescope" (KC 316). 5 Apr 1848: changed to 100 to 110 pounds for the telescope (KC 324). 18 Feb 1850: College Council forms a Committee to research the expense "of creating a suitable building for the Telescope now in the College" (KC 309). 19 Mar 1850: Design and contract approved by Council (KC 391). 14 Oct 1941: Observatory being used by students and community as an art centre for exhibitions of paintings, and "several well-known artists have given lectures and lessons during the year" (227).
