The Act to Amend the Charter stated that a person taking "Degree in Divinity" had to declare: "I do hereby solemnly profess, testify and declare that I believe in the Authenticity and Divine Inspiration of the Old and New Testaments, and in the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity." The Act to Amend the Act stated: "That nothing in the said fourth section of the said in part created Act, shall extend or be construed to extend to any Graduate in the Said University being a member of the Church of England" (311).
