Sir Charters Symonds donates $2,000 for a prize in N.B. Provincial History, "in honor of
his great grandfather, James Simonds, and he suggest[s] that the prize be offered next year for an
essay on the early settlers of the River Saint Johns [sic]" (26). James Simonds was one of the
"first settlers at the mouth of the River Saint John" (PR 1928-1929: 139).
